ALL ABOUT KING LOUIS XIV
King Louis XIV was born on September 5, 1638 in Châtea partsu de Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France. He was a monarch who ruled as the king of France from 1643 until his death on September 1, 1715. His reign of 72 years and 110 days is the longest of any monarch of a major country in European history. Louis became the ruler of France at the age of four. He wanted to eliminate the remains of feudalism persisting in parts of France. By these means he became one of the most powerful French monarchs and created a system of absolute monarchy in France that endured until the French Revolution. During Louis's reign, France was the leading European power and it fought three major wars: the Franco-Dutch War, the War of the League of Augsburg, and the War of the Spanish Succession. Upon his death just days before his seventy-seventh birthday, Louis was replaced by his five-year-old great-grandson, Louis XV.
